Everyday table styling

— Festivals, India, trends

There is something special about gathering around a beautifully styled dining table. Whether it’s a casual weekday dinner, a weekend brunch with friends, or a festive celebration, the way a table is presented can completely transform the atmosphere of a meal.

Choosing the right linens that can be used every day but equally in more formal settings are the starting point in turning something ordinary into something memorable. Here are some practical tips in styling your everyday table.

The everyday table

A beautifully styled table is not just about adding decorations, it is about the little rituals and pieces that offer a visually appealing and tactile experience that will make mealtimes more elegant and enjoyable. And, while not every day calls for a tablecloth, opting for 100% pure cotton table linen that is easy care means that you can use these pieces more often rather than save for a special occasion. Then, simple dinnerware and matching glass tumblers will provide cohesion.

Choosing your foundation: tablecloth

When it comes to laying the table, a tablecloth will always look sophisticated - choose your cloth according to the event and the season. Our cotton hand block printed tablecloths bring elegance and provide a foundation to build upon.

Choose from garden-inspired floral prints or more modern contemporary prints that can be styled casually or more formally, especially when layered with matching napkins.

For a bold print, choose Pink Anaar tablecloth [link], a vibrant pomegranate print and pair it with matching napkins or the delicate Jaipur Light Blue Jaal tablecloth [link] with a repeat pattern of hydrangeas. Both bringing fun and joy to mealtime and entertaining.

Crockery and glassware

The crockery and glassware you use will set the tone for your entire table. For special occasions it can be desirable to have a full range of matching dinnerware. White china is classic but a colourful mix and match of serving dishes and quirky dinnerware sets can be fun and celebratory too. Choose coloured glassware for additional interest.

Accessories

No table setting is complete without some form of centre arrangement or candles.  This could take the form of a vase filled with seasonal flowers or faux stems, or use smaller bud vases arranged at intervals.

Setting the table

When setting the table create a welcoming space where people feel comfortable, relaxed and excited to sit down together.

A typical place setting should include:

  • Dinner plate with napkin laid on top

  • Side plate top left

  • Forks on the left

  • Knives and spoon on the right

  • Glasses should sit above the knife

Napkins in more formal settings are usually placed to the left of the forks, but they can be laid on the plate or just above as the part of the tables cape design. Just make sure they can be reached easily without disrupting the place setting.
